Eating disorders
An eating disorder is defined as a persistent form of eating behavior and/or weight control behavior that significantly impairs physical health and psychosocial functioning, but is not the result of a medical condition or another psychiatric disorder.
The main eating disorders include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder, which was included as a separate diagnostic category of eating disorders in the revised 5th edition of the DSM diagnostic system.
Patients with the above eating disorders are possessed by dysfunctional thoughts about food consumption, characterized by feelings of anxiety, anger, fear, guilt, etc.
Eating disorders are considered multifactorial diseases characterized by severely disturbed eating behaviors, thoughts, and emotions related to body image and weight.
They are often accompanied by other psychiatric illnesses and can cause very serious health effects in patients, ranking them among the mental disorders with the highest mortality.
